Six Social, Emotional & academic Life Skills
We help children and their caregivers nurture and develop key social, emotional, and academic life skills through the Inner Kids model.
Here’s a quick overview of how we define these skills and how they work together organically.
An Integrated, Fluid Approach to Skill-Building
Inner Kids exercises, conversations, meditations, and games guide children and their caregivers through a process that develops six social, emotional, and academic life skills in ways that their minds naturally attune to. By practicing these truly integrative life skills — focusing, quieting, seeing, reframing, caring, and connecting — we can all become less reactive and more aware. Here are some quick examples of how these skills work together:
When we focus on an experience in the moment (the feeling of breathing or the sounds in a room), our minds tend to quiet, allowing us to see what’s going on more clearly. As we become more aware of what’s happening in our minds and bodies, we learn to view sense impressions (I’m feeling restless, for example, or I have butterflies in my stomach) with less judgment and instead view them as cues to stop and reflect before speaking or acting. When we see the web of relationships, causes, and conditions that lead up to each moment, caring and connecting emerge more naturally. Then, we have an opportunity to reframe how we view a situation and respond with greater wisdom and compassion
